Lawyers without Borders Canada (LWB Canada) regrets to announce the departure of its Executive Director, Véronique Lamontagne, who is taking an extended leave of absence for health reasons. Demonstrating her dedication to the organization, Ms. Lamontagne has chosen to step aside to prioritize her recovery, ensuring that LWB Canada continues to benefit from strong, committed leadership. Her vision has been passed on to Karine Ruel, who will succeed her as Executive Director.
LWB Canada warmly thanks Ms. Lamontagne for the commitment and professionalism she has demonstrated despite the challenges she has faced since taking up her post at the head of the organization in March 2024 and wishes her all the best for the future.
“LWB Canada is a solid organization with a seasoned team. Its ongoing success is confirmed by the recent approval of impressive multi-million projects over the next three years. To pursue its mission with the same rigor and commitment as it has for the past 20 years, and to explore new horizons and new approaches, it must be able to count on a fully committed and present leader.” – Véronique Lamontagne
Karine Ruel promoted to Executive Director
Ms. Ruel draws on extensive expertise in international legal cooperation acquired with various organizations. Over the past 6 years, she has distinguished herself in management positions at LWB Canada, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the organization’s inner workings and vision in the pursuit of its mission. LWB Canada is pleased to have at its helm such an experienced professional and expert in her field. Her strong credibility and reputation within the international and local community is expected to be a catalyst for the organization.
“I welcome this new challenge with humility, but also with conviction. In recent months, I have come to know Ms. Lamontagne as a woman of exceptional dedication, committed to transforming human rights into tangible solutions for global challenges. I am honored to carry the torch forward with the same passion and commitment. At a time when, in many countries, the rule of law is crumbling and the climate is threatening vulnerable populations, our vision of a world where human rights are respected needs to be the future”. – Karine Ruel
