October 18, 2024, Quebec City – Lawyers Without Borders Canada (LWB Canada) enthusiastically unveiled $ 300 330 raised during its annual fundraising event, held on October 17, 2024 at the Voltigeurs de Québec Armoury. Final sprint of its annual fundraising campaign, about 200 people from the legal, business and international relations communities gathered for the occasion.

Orchestrated under the leadership of its new Executive Director, lawyer Véronique Lamontagne, the event looked to the future, highlighting concrete actions and solutions to climate and mobility issues, with the participation of Joey Hanna, Head of Montreal Field Unit of the United Nations Refugee Agency.

“A just, equitable and sustainable future for the next generations requires an immediate and collective effort. We are pleased that once again our partners, the people we work with and those who believe in our mission have responded with conviction to our call for donations. There is a great need to counter the harmful effects of climate change and migration on respect for human rights. Lawyers Without Borders Canada is ready to tackle these issues with the necessary energy, and our fundraising event showed that we are not the only ones ready.” – Véronique Lamontagne, Executive Director, LWB Canada

The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, MNA for Québec City, kicked off the festivities, followed by Catherine Roland-Vallières, Deputy Mayor of Québec City and responsible for international affairs.

An emotional tribute to Pascal Paradis

On a more emotional note, the organization paid tribute to the dedication of lawyer Pascal Paradis, who attended the event. The former Executive Director, now Jean-Talon MNA, retired from LWB Canada in August 2023 after more than 20 years at the helm. Since its foundation in 2002, in which he participated, he has been one of the main driving forces behind the organization’s growth. First as a volunteer, then as its first employee, to reach over 150 active full-time talents in 12 countries. Pascal Paradis’s vision and dedication have ensured LWB Canada’s longevity and credibility, and enabled the organization today to be as strong in its stand for justice.
